Hanoi (VNA) – Experience in applying digital platforms and database to promote public services in a digital environment was the centre of discussions at a seminar held by the Vietnam Social Security (VSS) in the northern port city of Hai Phong on March 30-31.
The event drew the participation of many international experts from the World Bank, Microsoft Corporation, SAP Technology Group and social insurance agencies of Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, among others. It aimed to foster social welfare cooperation between the VSS and its partners in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
Addressing the event, VSS Deputy General Director Chu Manh Sinh said over the years, the cooperation mechanism among countries in the Mekong region such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam has been making important contributions to the common development, promoting economic linkages as well as improving people's lives, poverty reduction and hunger alleviation and socio-economic development of countries in the region.
The VSS has shared its experience in applying information technology, designing, operating and promoting e-government services in the field of social welfare at the seminar.
Highlighting the efforts and results attained in the fields of information technology and digital transformation of the industry, Sinh said that the VSS has effectively implemented the digital transformation, especially the public service system.
The digital transformation of the industry continues to make progress, especially in the implementation of the Prime Minister's Decision No. 06/QD-TTg dated January 6, 2022 approving a project on developing the application of population database, e-identification and e- authentication for national digital transformation in 2022-2025 period, with a vision to 2030 (known as Project 06).
“Digital transformation has brought about landmark changes in all activities of the industry, contributing to successfully building the country’s digital social insurance industry in line with the orientation of the digital government set out by the Party and State," Sinh said.
According to Sinh, the VSS now manages a database of 98.7 million people, which connects with over 13,000 medical facilities and more than 620,000 organisations, businesses, ministries and departments. VSS receives and processes nearly 300 million electronic transactions each year.
Since late 2020, the VSS has put the "VssID - Digital Social Insurance" app into use to enable beneficiaries to check their social, health and unemployment insurance status, and use public services provided by VSS agencies. The app is currently available in Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages. So far, about 30 million people have registered for this app, he added.
Emphasising digital transformation as an inevitable trend, Sinh said that it is necessary for social security agencies in the Mekong River Delta, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region as well as other regions in the world to make more efforts to better serve the people and strengthen the social security.
At the seminar, foreign experts exchanged experiences and offered recommendations in IT and digital transformation application in the field of social security for Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
Experts from the WB, Microsoft Corporation and SAP Technology Group also contributed ideas to build a more modern and professional social security community, ensure social welfare benefits of every citizen and successfully build e-government of each country./.
