Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Vietnamese Minister of Public Security To Lam and Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi agreed to strengthen anti-crime cooperation during their talks in Kuala Lumpur on June 7.

The talks were part of the Vietnamese minister’s official visit to Malaysia.

Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also a Deputy Prime Minister, expressed his delight at the strides seen in the Southeast Asian nations’ strategic partnership, and in the two ministries’ relations.

Echoing the view, Minister To Lam highlighted the development of bilateral cooperation in all spheres, especially since the two Governments issued a joint statement on the strategic partnership framework – a new momentum for all-round cooperation with politics and security among the pillars.

At the talks, the two sides noted the expanded collaboration between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Malaysia’s relevant agencies, particularly since the October 1, 2015 signing of the Governments’ agreement on cooperation in transnational crime prevention and combat.

They agreed to continue effectively implementing the commitments and agreements reached, while enhancing information exchanges and fighting crime, especially terrorism, human trafficking and hi-tech crime.

The ministries will foster ties in protecting the legitimate rights of each other’s organisations and citizens who live, study, work and travel in the other nation. They will also push for negotiations on a criminal extradition treaty and another on prisoner transfer.
