Nghe An (VNA) – Vietnam and Laos convened thefourth meeting of their Scientific and Technological Cooperation Committee inCua Lo town, the central province of Nghe An, on June 25.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed on priority cooperationorientations for 2017-2019, with the focus on helping the Lao Science andTechnology Development Fund in its operation, assisting Laos in completinglegal infrastructure and enhancing technical capacity in radiation safety.

Vietnam will also support Laos in increasing information andstatistical capacity of Lao scientific and technological officials.

The two sides will boost investment promotion activities andtechnology transfer between the two countries, and cooperate in theintellectual property field.

They also signed memoranda of understanding on cooperationbetween the two countries’ National Funds for Science and TechnologyDevelopment and between Vietnam’s State Agency for Technology Innovation andLaos’ Technology and Innovation Department.

Addressing the event, Minister of Science and Technology ChuNgoc Anh said that, after the third meeting in 2014, the two countries’ministries of science and technology actively coordinated in implementing aproject on building a centre training Lao scientific and technological managingofficials.
The centre will be put into operation in the fourth quarterof this year and become a symbol for cooperation between the two ministries, heaffirmed.

Lao Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdaraspoke highly of the outcomes of cooperation projects between the two sideswhich have brought about practical benefits for the Lao people, especiallyscientists.

Experience Vietnam has shared through the implementation ofprojects is valuable for Laos in stepping up its scientific and technologicaldevelopment, he added.-VNA
