Da Nang (VNA) – Vietnam and Laos reviewed the border and border gate management at the 25th meeting of their border delegations in the central city of Da Nang on June 20.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the National Boundary Commission Le Hoai Trung while the Lao side was headed by Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.

Both sides expressed their pleasure with the completion of a project on increasing and upgrading Vietnam-Laos border markers, and the signing of a protocol on Vietnam-Laos borderline and border markers and a new agreement on land border and border gate management mechanisms.

They agreed that the border management cooperation over the past time has contributed to ensuring political security and strengthening defence and social order in shared border areas, thus enhancing the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

They pledged to promote border management in line with existing legal regulations, refine internal legal procedures and boost cross-border trade, culture and tourism while executing a government-level agreement on the settlement of free migration and illegitimate marriages in border areas.

Concluding the meeting, the two sides agreed that 26th meeting of this kind will be held in Laos. The specific timing will be arranged by diplomatic channels.
