Accordingly, the two sides are making joint effortsto ensure the progress of infrastructure development and high-qualityhuman resources training in Vietnam to produce one of the leadingspace centres in Southeast Asia.
The pair willmake full use of their respective skills and resources for futurecollaboration in remote sensing, small satellite production, globalsatellite positioning system application, and ensuring the constructionprogress of the Vietnam Space Centre project in Hoa Lac hi-tech park inHanoi, which began in September 2012.
Theproject is the crux of the aerospace technological application andresearch strategy of Vietnam through 2020, with a total investmentof 54 billion JPY (over 452 million USD) primarily sourced from theofficial development assistance (ODA) of the Japanese Government.
It consists of three main components: technical infrastructure andequipment; receiving and transferring technology; and human resourcestraining.
Once operational in 2020, the centre willmaster small earth observation satellite technology, observe the entireterritory of Vietnam unimpeded by weather conditions through the use ofmodern radar technology, and most importantly, facilitate the buildingand analysis of satellite photo data used for monitoring and earlywarning detection of natural disasters.
Vietnamand Japan have strengthened cooperation in outer space science andtechnology since 2006. Hundreds of Vietnamese scientists and IT expertsreceived training at Japanese science and technology institutes, TokyoUniversity, and Osaka University, over the past decade.
The two countries also successfully co-organised the 20thAsia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) conference in Hanoiin 2013.
The bilateral collaboration has alsoexpanded and deepened over the past 40 years in economics, education, training, and other fields.
