Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committeelaunched a donation campaign in aid of people in the central region, who haveborne the brunt of storm Doksuri, in Hanoi on September 19.
Doksuri,the 10th storm arising in the East Sea and the strongest one hitting Vietnam inmany years, has caused severe damage to Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, NgheAn, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien – Hue provinces.
Itleft over 10 people dead and missing and more than 200 injured.
Thetyphoon destroyed over 200,000 houses, inundated 4,473ha of rice and 8,277ha ofother crops, affected 16,108ha of aquatic farming, and ruined 10km of nationalhighways and 17.9km of local roads.
Totaldamage has to date amounted to 11 trillion VND (484 million USD).
Inresponse to the campaign, the Finance Ministry donated 500 million VND (22,000USD), Duc Giang textile company 50 million VND (2,200 USD), while VFF personneleach donated one day of his salary.
Thesame day, the VFF issued a decision to allocate 4 billion VND (176,000 USD) toassist flood victims in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Triand Nghe An. The sum was sourced from funding by the national committee foremergency aid.
HaTinh and Quang Binh, which were most affected by the typhoon, will each receive1.5 billion VND (66,000 USD), while Quang Tri and Nghe An will get 500 millionVND (22,000 USD) each.-VNA
