Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The 55th anniversary of the Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic relationship (December 2, 1960 – December 2, 2015) was marked at a ceremony in HCM City on December 3.

The event was held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association of HCM City.

Tat Thanh Cang, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, said the Vietnam – Cuba friendship has been continuously strengthened and developed to become a precious asset of the two nations.

Vietnam always treasures Cuba’s solidarity and wholehearted support for Vietnam in Vietnam’s struggle for independence as well as in the current national reconstruction and development, he said.

The official called for stronger cooperation between the two countries adding that the two-way trade exchange between the city and Cuba has been modest in the past years but the situation will change as Cuba is implementing new economic policies.

He suggested the two sides could increase cooperation in hi-tech agriculture, consumer goods manufacturing, and mechanic industry for agriculture, said Cang.

Bernabe Garcia Valido, Cuba’s General Consul in HCM City said the Vietnam - Cuba relationship has been good all the way since the first days, which is a firm foundation for deep and extensive cooperation in all fields to bring economic relations to the same level with political ties.

He expressed his belief that the younger generations would continue writing new historic chapters and deepening the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

At the ceremony, the VUFO and the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association presented prizes for winners of the painting competition with the theme of “Vietnam – Cuba Friendship,” which was launched in September.

On the occasion, the Vietnam News Agency organised a photo exhibition titled “Vietnam – Cuba, 55 years of solidarity and cooperation.”-VNA
