Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam and Cuba’s time-honoured relations were highlighted at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 30.

Addressing the event, which aimed to mark the 55 th anniversary of diplomatic ties, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation and Education Dinh The Huynh said the bilateral ties have been nurtured incessantly and have developed into comprehensive cooperation with mutual trust.

He affirmed that Vietnam remembers the valuable assistance provided by the Latin American country in the past, saying that this contributed significantly to Vietnam’s struggle for independence and unification.

He recalled the event as Former Cuban President Fidel Castro became the first and only world leader to have the liberated zone in the central province of Quang Tri in 1973.

Huynh described the consistent solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between the two Parties, States and people over the last 55 years as a precious shared asset . He said he believes that future generations will continue treasuring the friendship and dedicating themselves to further deepening these special relations.

For his part, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz asserted that the model relations between the two nations, which have different languages, traditions and customs, have contributed to each country’s national construction, defence, struggle for peace and stable development.

He said he hopes they could strengthen their relations even more in the future.

On December 2, 1960, the Cuban and Vietnamese Governments set up a diplomatic relationship, ushering in a new chapter in their friendship.

Bilateral cooperation has been expanded in numerous fields such as agriculture, industry, construction, trade, investment, culture, education, science and technology.-VNA
