Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quangasked the Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) to forge ahead with judicial reforms andinternational integration while working with socio-professional organisationsof lawyers in Hanoi on July 10.
The President, who is also head of the CentralSteering Committee on Judicial Reform, told the federation to activelycontribute to protecting the socialist legal system and the legitimate rights andinterests of agencies, organisations, and individuals.
He said bar associations nationwide will holdcongresses in 2018 in preparation for the third National Lawyers’ Congress forthe 2020-2025 tenure.
The VBF should improve the institutional system ensuringlawyers properly perform their rights, obligations, and responsibilitiesaccording to legal provisions, President Quang said.
At the same time, it is import to be increasingthe quality of proceedings at trial; building policies to promote legal consultancyactivities; and encouraging lawyers to participate in legal aid activities forpolicy beneficiaries, revolutionary contributors, people in need, and ethnicminority groups, he added.
He ordered the VBF to effectively implement astrategy to develop the law profession in terms of capability and operationalefficiency through 2020, and a scheme to develop lawyers to better serveinternational economic integration in 2010-2020.
The President hoped the VBF will promote itsrole in external relations and international cooperation in accordance with theParty’s and State’s policies and guidelines.
He requested that centrally-run judicialagencies soon provide guidance on the implementation of the Code of Criminal Procedure2015 to ensure the legal practice of lawyers.
Currently, the country has over 12,500 lawyers. -VNA
