Saint Petersburg (VNA) – The National Assemblyof Vietnam always supports and participates in parliamentary cooperationactivities hosted by Russia, including the Eurasian Women’s Forum in 2015 andthe Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments in 2016.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Nganmade the statement while meeting with Chairwoman of the Federation Councilof Russia Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko on the sidelines of the137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) in Saint Petersburg onOctober 15.
She hoped the two countries’ parliaments willforge coordination within the framework of the IPU, the Asia-EuropeParliamentary Partnership Meeting, and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Ngan expressed delight at growing ties betweenVietnam and Russia through high-level delegation exchanges, including the visitto Vietnam by Chairwoman Matviyenko in February 2017 and the visit to Russia byPresident Tran Dai Quang in late June and early July this year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled toattend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Vietnam’s central city of Da Nang inNovember 2017, she noted.
She praised bilateral cooperation in oil and gasand suggested the two sides create more favourable conditions for jointventures to operate. Vietnam backs Russian projects, Ngan said, calling on thetwo countries to expand cooperation in other fields such as tourism andculture.
The two countries’ parliaments will step upcooperation in the future, including the enhancement of high-level delegationexchanges and experience sharing in legislative activities as well ascoordination to supervise signed cooperation deals, she added.
Chairwoman Matviyenko recognised Vietnam’sactive participation in the Eurasian Women’s Forum 2015 and hoped the SoutheastAsian country would partake in the forum in September next year.-VNA
