Vietnam, Algeria look to further cooperation

Algiers (VNA) - Vietnam and Algeria need to make stronger actions to further promotetheir economic cooperation and bilateral partnership in line with the two newlyemerging economies’ existing potential, said Algerian Foreign MinisterAbdelkader Messahel.

In an interview granted to Algeria-based Vietnam News Agency correspondents onthe threshold of his working visit to Vietnam from July 13-14, Messahel affirmedhis visit aims to enhance the traditional bilateral relations and regular consultationmechanism between the two countries.

This will give a chance for both sides to assess their relationship, especiallyin economic, trade and investment cooperation, and seek measures to lift the tiesto a higher level in accordance with the desire of the two countries’ people,he added.

Regarding the prospect for cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria in the comingtime, Messahel said the two sides are enjoying fruitful politic relations.

He, however, noted that the two countries have to do more to foster theireconomic links.

Two-waytrade between Vietnam and Algeria reached only 360 million USD in 2017, and onlythe Vietnam National Oil andGas Group (PetroVietnam) is investing in Algeria, he said.

The minister expressed his belief that the two countries can do more and betterto bolster the economic links and bilateral partnership.

At the 11th meeting of the Algeria-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committeein November 2017 in Algiers, the two sides set a goal of creating new momentum forpushing the bilateral cooperation, he noted.

Messahel urged the two sides’ ministries and sectors to concretise theircommitments set forth in the meeting, and create favourable conditions for promotingtrade and investment exchanges between the two nations.

Algeria is pleased with the effectiveness of consultation and coordination ofthe two countries at international forums, especially the Non-Aligned Movement.

He affirmed Algeria and Vietnam share common views of many internationalissues, and agree to respect principles of international law as well as the UNCharter and principles such as nations’ right to self-determination, settlement of disputes by peaceful means and diplomaticprocesses, and no interference in the internal affairs of other nations.-VNA
