Vietnam Airlines’ first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner landed at Heathrow Airport in London on September 1, marking the first international destination served by the national flag carrier’s new-generation plane.

Speaking at a ceremony to welcome the plane, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Van Thao said that the launch of the new jet shows the carrier’s strong commitment with the UK as a bridge to connect the two countries’ peoples, especially as they celebrate the 5 th anniversary of their bilateral strategic partnership.

Vietnam Airlines chief representative in the UK Le Thanh Dung said that with the launch of the modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and the increase of flights to the UK capital city to five this summer, six this winter and seven for summer 2016, the carrier is step-by-step improving itself in order to better serve passengers and gain a firm foothold in the competitive UK market.

Lesley Wright, Marketing Director of the UK-based Insider Journeys travel agency, shared that on this occasion, her company launched a promotion programme dedicated to passengers booking tickets with Vietnam Airlines.

On August 2, Vietnam Airlines officially received the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first of its kind in the airliner’s fleet of new-generation airplanes.

The aircraft is the latest version of the Boeing 787 genre that is able to carry more passengers on a longer distance. The advanced technology applied on board helps save 20 percent of the fuel required and reduces 20 percent of emissions compared to contemporary models.-VNA
