Moscow (VNA) –The 14th St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum (PMIF) kickedoff in the Russian city on November 10, with Vietnam being the partner of thisyear’s event.

The forum through November 12,organised both in person and via videoconference, features more than 50 eventsand discussions on technological breakthroughs and the development of digitaltechnology.

Addressing the plenarysession themed “New industrial policy. Change readiness”, Vietnamese Ambassadorto Russia Dang Minh Khoi said Vietnam has achieved impressive economicachievements thanks to its people’s industriousness and the state’s attentionto both people’s happiness and economic development.

He also underlined theenormous assistance that the former Soviet Union and Russia has given toVietnam during the struggle for national independence and efforts of economicdevelopment.

Chairman of the VietnamesePeople’s Association in Russia Do Xuan Hoang said innovation has become anindispensable part of the current life and changed the economy and society.

In fact, he noted, innovationis necessary for the development of any enterprise or economy.

As part of the forum, aroundtable workshop took place to look into the prospects of economic - trade partnershipsbetween St. Petersburg and Vietnamese localities. It was attended byrepresentatives from businesses, science and healthcare centres, and publicorganisations of the Russian city and Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong city, andKhanh Hoa province of Vietnam.

Evgeny Grigoriev, Chairman ofthe St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations, noted the top priority ofhis city now is boosting cooperation with Vietnam.

Trade between the two countrieshas been growing continually, reaching 4.9 billion USD in 2020 and 3.8 billionUSD in the first nine months of 2021, respectively rising 8 percent and 4.6percent year on year, according to Khoi.

The diplomat also applaudedthe fruitful ties in COVID-19 prevention and control, helping turn Vietnam intothe first Southeast Asian country to successfully bottle the Sputnik V vaccineand work to become a Sputnik V manufacturing centre in the region.

Participants in the workshop talkedthe outlook for bilateral cooperation in various fields such as cancertreatment, pharmaceutical, solid waste treatment, electrical materials and powergrids, tourism, bamboo and rattan products, farm produce, software, andindustrial park development./.
