Vietjet Air signs aircraft financing agreement with German group

VietJet Air and the GOAL German Operating Aircraft Leasing GmbH & Co. KG signed an agreement paving the way for GOAL to finance Vietjet’s acquisition of four brand new A321 aircraft worth 464 mln USD.

Hanoi (VNA) - Low-cost carrier VietJet Airand the GOAL German Operating Aircraft Leasing GmbH & Co. KG (GOAL) signeda strategic agreement paving the way for GOAL to finance Vietjet’s acquisitionof four brand new A321 aircraft worth 464 million USD.

The signing on July 6 took place with the witness ofPrime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and many high-ranking officials of Vietnam andGermany.

GOAL is a joint venture of KGAL GmbH & Co. KG (KGAL)and Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

The acquisition of the four aircraft is part of theA320 family aircraft contract signed earlier between Vietjet and Europeanaircraft manufacturer Airbus.

Vietjet will receive the aircraft within 2017 tomeet its expansion plans for the airline’s domestic and international flightnetwork.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, GOAL ManagingDirector Jochen Baltes said: “GOAL and KGAL are very excited about the purchaseand leaseback of these four aircraft with one of the world’s most dynamiclow-cost airlines. Following this agreement, all parties will continue to workand cooperate together on more opportunities in aviation development in thecoming time.”

According to Vietjet President & CEO Nguyen ThiPhuong Thao, the carrier has received 16 new A321 aircraft from Hamburg,Germany, worth nearly 2 billion USD, including Airbus’ 9,000th A320 aircraft,which caused great excitement in Europe.

“Today’s deal ensures the financing and favourableconditions for Vietjet to further develop its modern fleet, thus helping toenforce the airline’s quality and safety in operations, a key part of ourstrategy for the long-term development of Vietjet,” Thao affirmed.

Vietjet also recently signed a similar deal withMitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Company Limited (MUL), a member of Japan’sleading finance group Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), to financeVietjet’s acquisition of three brand new A321 aircraft, worth 348 million USD.-VNA
