In addition to decorating the streets onthe occasion, the municipal Department of Culture and Sports has stepped upcommunications work to encourage Hanoians to enhance the city’s image as a safeand friendly locality.
The procession passed through Hanoi’s famouslocations surrounding the Hoan Kiem Lake in the very heart of the city,including Melia Hanoi Hotel, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel, the Hanoi OperaHouse and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
With more than 150 vehicles decked with thenational flags of Vietnam, the US and the DPRK, the event called on people tocomply with the city’s lifestyle and traffic rules, while ensuring social order.
Director of the department To Van Dong saidthat Hanoi’s hosting of the second DPRK-USA summit reflects the city’s honourand responsibility for an international event.
The procession aims to raise publicawareness about promoting the image of Vietnam and Hanoi in particular to theworld, an important task to maintain the reputation of Hanoi – the City forPeace, he noted.
Hanoi has basically completed thegroundwork for the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam, slated for February 27-28,and the official friendship visit by Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea(WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic ofKorea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un.
The city has also asked environmentalcompanies to clean up major streets, especially those surrounding the plannedvenues of meetings during the summit. -VNA
