– Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania Nguyen KimDoanh paid a courtesy call to Uganda’s Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, who expressedhis wish that relations between Vietnam and Uganda will be enhanced soon.

Lauding Vietnam’s achievements over the years, the Ugandan PM said thathe believes Vietnam will gain new success in its reforms and industrialisationand modernisation.

He lauded Vietnam’s appointing of a Ugandan tycoon, Ceasar Augustus Mulenga,as the Honourary Ambassador in Uganda’s capital Kampala, describing the act asan important step in bilateral ties.

He also voiced hope that the Vietnamese Embassy will continue holdingactivities to bolster the partnership between the two countries.

Briefing his host on the socio-economic situation and major externalpolicies of Vietnam, Ambassador Doanh expressed hope that Vietnam-Uganda relationswill be beefed up.

He proposed the two sides increase delegation exchange and the sharingof information on economic potential in each country, creating opportunitiesfor enterprises of both sides to meet and seek partnerships.

Vietnam and Uganda should also consider signing a memorandum of understandingbetween the two governments on cooperation in economics, trade, investment,financial-banking services, and tourism, he said.

He also thanked the Uganda Government for supporting Vietnam in its runfor the seat of Director-General of the UNESCO, while suggesting Ugandacontinue backing Vietnam at international organisations, as well as Vietnam’s candidacyfor non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021.-VNA
