Hanoi(VNA) – Typhoon Tembin has killed 200 people and left dozens of others missingafter wreaking havoc to the Philippines on December 22, Philippine policereported on December 23 night.
Of the death toll,135 people were reported in Northern Mindanao, 47 on the Zamboanga peninsuladuring the storm, and 18 in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Local authoritieswarned that the number of victims may continue to rise, while search and rescueactivities have been underway.
Tembin also causedserious floods and landslides in Mindanao, the second largest island of thePhilippines, completely buried a remote village. Boasting wind speed of 80 kmper hour, the storm destroyed many power transmission lines and blocked manystreets in Lanao Del Norte province.
Each year, theSoutheast Asian country suffers from about 20 storms and heavy losses in bothhuman lives and property. The devastated Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 killed 8,000people and made about 200,000 others homeless.-VNA
