Can Tho (VNA) – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho greeted 780,000 visitors during the nine-day Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, up 15 percent against the same period last year.
According to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, holiday-makers flocked to roads decorated with flowers and lights, parks and tourist sites across the city such as the Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, Ninh Kieu Bridge and Cai Rang floating market.
During the year’s longest holiday, which lasted from February 6-14, Can Tho pocketed an estimated 82.8 billion VND (3.7 million USD) from the tourism sector, representing a year-on-year increase of 12 percent.
The Mekong Delta city aims to attract 1.7 million visitors, earning 1.8 trillion VND (80 million USD) from tourism this year, according to the municipal People's Committee.
To that end, the city will focus on developing river tours, tours visiting craft villages and historic sites, and city tours.
Last year, Can Tho welcomed more than 1.6 million visitors, up by 18 percent year-on-year.-VNA
