Thua Thien-Hue: Festival to honour traditional crafts

The seventh Hue Traditional Craft Festival will take place from April 28 to May 2 in the ancient imperial city of Hue, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, heard a press conference in Hanoi on April 5.

Hanoi (VNA) - The seventh Hue Traditional CraftFestival will take place from  April 28 to May 2 in the ancient imperial city of Hue, the central province ofThua Thien-Hue, heard a press conference in Hanoi on April 5.

The festival, vital to enhance the position of Hue ancient capital, is expectedto attract the largest-ever number of handicraft artisans and craft villages.

Vice Chairman of the Hue city People’s Committee Nguyen Dang Thach stressedthat the regular organisation of such an event aims to preserve and develop traditionalcrafts and trade villages, contributing to boosting the local economic andtourism development.

After six years, the festival has affirmed its reputation amongstlocal people, tourists and craftsmen nationwide, he said.

As many as 13 groups of crafts and over 300 artisans from famouscraft villages nationwide have registered to participate in the festival, whichwill see the presence of countries twinning with Hue.

The highlight of the event will be an “Ao dai” festival in Truong Tien Bridge onApril 30 night, displaying collections of designers from Hanoi, Hue and HCMCity.

Numerous cultural activities such as a cuisine festival featuring specialtiesof Hue and other regions of the country, art performances and a ceremony tohonour the traditional crafts of Vietnam will also be held.

There will be a fashion show introducing collections of 19 designers fromVietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Spain,along with an exhibition of products from traditional trade villages, filmscreenings, and tourism promotion programmes.-VNA
