Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand Election Commission (EC)’sselection committee has chosen five candidates for the EC who will be ratifiedby the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) before the new EC debuts this July,the Thai media reported on May 4.
The move is in preparation for the general election slatedfor February 2019.
The finalists include Suntud Sirianuntapiboon, environmentaltechnology professor from the University of Technology Thonburi; SomchaiCharnnarongkul, former Director of the Ministry of Agriculture andCooperatives’ Cooperative Promotion Department; Ittiporn Boonpracong, formerDirector of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs; PeerasakHinmuangkao, former Governor of Buri Ram province; and TawatchaiTerdphaothaidanh, former Governor of Sakaburi province.
According to the law, EC comprises 7 members, two of themare chosen by the Supreme Court. Last week, the court elected ChatchaiChanpraisri and Pakorn Mahannop as its EC candidates.
The selection was a second attempt after the NLA turned downall of the finalist candidates proposed by the selection committee inFebruary.-VNA
