Bangkok (VNA)- Thailand's Government announced on July 1 that it will delay the enforcementof a new labour law after thousands of migrant workers fled to neighbouringcountries, including Myanmar and Cambodia, this week.
In the Samut Sakhon seafood processing hub,around 500 Myanmar labourers have been returning home daily during the pastweek. A police chief in Myanmar's Karen state said around 6,000 migrant workershad returned home from Thailand since June 29.
Meanwhile, on the Cambodian border, the numberof migrants coming back home has been increasing daily since the new law cameto into effect. Since June 28, nearly 2,000 workers have travelled to Cambodiathrough the Poipet checkpoint.
In that context, the Thai Government said itwould suspend parts of the new foreign labour law, which came into effect on 23June, for 120 days to allow employers and their employees to seek suitable jobsolutions.
During this window, there will be no arrests orcrackdown on illegal workers except for those who violate human traffickinglaws, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said.-VNA
