The conference was held near Thailand's Ban NamPu Ron and Myanmar's Htee Kee border checkpoints, aiming at increasing tradeactivities in border areas by promoting border development and cooperationbetween Thailand and Myanmar.
In attendance were Dr. Lei Lei Maw, Chief Minister ofMyanmar's Taninthargyi Region, as well as representatives from public andprivate organizations in Kanchanaburi province. Small meetings onpublic-private cooperation, business matching and agreement-signing ceremonieswere also held on the sidelines of the event.
Dr. Lei Lei Maw said Myanmar’s economy is experiencing rapidgrowth and, therefore, the country must import construction materials,household commodities and industrial chemicals to accommodate rising domesticdemand.
He invited Thai businesses to build more hotels, factoriesand mines to accommodate the potential growth on the border, especially onceroad construction, connecting Dawei Port and Ban Nam Pu Ron Checkpoint, iscompleted. He also expects more investment and travel by citizens of bothcountries in the near future.-NNT/VNA
