Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Livestock DevelopmentDepartment said all pigs and carcasses from Laos will be banned from enteringThailand in 90 days amid growing concern about African swine fever (ASF).
The decision was issued on June 21, after Laos confirmed itsfirst AFS-infected cases. Infections in the Lao southern province of Saravaneprovince have so far killed 973 animals.
Thailand’s move followed a similar ban by China the same day.
The disease has plagued China and Vietnam, leading to theculling of millions of pigs.
The trans-boundary animal disease can be spread by live ordead pigs but it poses no threats to humans. There is no vaccine against thefever.-VNA
