Hanoi (VNA) – The first African swinefever (ASF) outbreak in Cambodia has been recorded in the northeastern provinceof Ratanakiri, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The OIE cited the Cambodian Ministry ofAgriculture as saying that the National Animal Health and Production ResearchInstitute has detected the ASF virus in some backyard pigs.
ASF has killed 400 pigs in a village in Oyadavdistrict of Ratanakiri province since March 22, while another 100 pigs wereculled.
The OIE statement said that Cambodia has takenmeasures to control the outbreak in the area while closely monitoring the virusoutside the affected zone.
ASF is a dangerous and fatal disease in pigs.Currently, no vaccine or medicine has been found against the disease. It doesnot affect the health of humans. –VNA
