Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand’s OmbudsmanOffice on March 14 announced that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha isqualified to run in the upcoming election.
Speaking at a press conference, Ombudsman Office Secretary-General RaksakechaChaechai said the Election Commission’s nomination of Prayut as a PM candidateis legal.
The general election is scheduled to be held on March 24. This will be thefirst general election in the country since the military coup in 2014.
A total of 68 candidates have been verified by the polling agency to run forthe post of prime minister. The election also attracts the Pheu Thai Party of formerPM Thaksin Shinawatra and the Democrat Party of former PM Abhisit Vejjajiva.-VNA
