Hanoi (VNA) – A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines atdawn on April 12, causing property damage.
According to initial reports, the quake destroyed dozens of houses while forcinglocals to flee to safe shelters.
Local officials said that although there were no reports of serious casualties,water outages and power blackouts were recorded in Lanao del Sur, 800kilometres south of Manila.
ThePhilippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that the earthquake wasfelt in 16 cities and towns in the south, including major urban centres likeDavao and Cagayan de Oro.
On April 8, two earthquakes with magnitude of more than 5.0 also shook Bantagasprovince on Luzon island, causing large-scale power cuts.-VNA
