The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have issued a special communiqué, announcing that President Tran Dai Quang died at 10:05am on September 21, 2018, and his funeral will be held as a national mourning.

Hanoi (VNA) –The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, theGovernment and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front haveissued a special communiqué, announcing that President Tran Dai Quang died at10:05am on September 21, 2018, and his funeral will be held as a nationalmourning.

Comrade Tran Dai Quang, bornon October 12, 1956; native place: Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, NinhBinh province; residence: No. 8, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum street, Nhan Chinh ward,Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi city. He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam onJuly 26, 1980; Member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th, 11th and 12th tenures; Politburo Member of the 11th and 12th tenures; President of the State (from April 2016 to now), Chairman of theNational Defence and Security Council; Member of the Standing Board of theCentral Military Party Committee; Member of the Standing Board of the CentralPublic Security Party Committee; Member of the National Assembly of the 13th and 14th tenures, Head of the Central Judicial Reform SteeringCommittee.

After a period of illness,despite the wholehearted care by the Party, State, medical group and hisfamily, he passed away at 10:05am on September 21, 2018, of the heavy illnessat Central Military Hospital 108.

Throughout his time of work,he has made many contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Partyand the nation. He has been awarded with many noble orders and medals, and aninsignia of 30 years of Party membership.

His passing away is a greatloss to our Party, State and people.

Comrade Tran Dai Quang wasborn on October 12, 1956, in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binhprovince; residence at No. 8, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum street, Nhan Chinh ward, ThanhXuan district, Hanoi city. He was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam onJuly 26, 1980.

July 1972 – October 1975: Hewas a student at the People's Police School and School of Foreign Languagesunder the Ministry of the Interior (now the Ministry of Public Security).

October 1975 – June 1990: Officer,Deputy Head and Head of Section at Political Protection Department underMinistry of the Interior.

June 1990 – September 1996: DeputySecretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Head and Deputy Head in charge ofSecurity Staff Department, General Department of Security.

September 1996 – October2000: Member of the standing board of the Party Committee of the GeneralSecurity Department; and Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of theSecurity Staff Department.

October 2000 – April 2006: DeputySecretary of Party Committee and Deputy Head of the General SecurityDepartment, Ministry of Public Security. He was promoted to Major General andconferred with the title of Associate Professor in 2003.

April 2006 - January 2011: Memberof standing board of the Central Public Security Party Committee, and DeputyMinister of Public Security; promoted to Lieutenant General in April 2007 andconferred with the title of Professor in 2009. At the 10th PartyCongress, he was elected to the Party Central Committee.

January 2011 – July 2011: Memberof the standing board of the Central Public Security Party Committee, andDeputy Minister of Public Security. At the 11th Party Congress, hewas elected to the Party Central Committee, and elected by the Party CentralCommittee to the Political Bureau; Member of the National Assembly, the 13th tenure.

July 2011 – December 2012:Politburo Member, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee,Minister of Public Security. He was promoted to Senior Lieutenant General in December2011; Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee.

December 2012 – April 2016:Politburo Member, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee,Minister of Public Security. He was promoted to General in December 2012; DeputyHead of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, Deputy Head of thecentral internal political protection sub-committee. At the 12the PartyCongress, he was re-elected to the Party Central Committee, and elected by theParty Central Committee to the Political Bureau in January 2016. At the 11th session of the National Assembly, the 13th tenure, he was electedPresident of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in April 2016. At the firstsession of the National Assembly, the 14th tenure, he was re-electedPresident of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in July 2016.

From April 2016 to now:Politburo Member, President of the State, Chairman of the National Defence andSecurity Council; Member of the standing board of the Central Military PartyCommittee; Member of the standing board of the Central Public Security PartyCommittee; Member of the National Assembly, the 14th tenure; Head ofthe Central Judicial Reform Steering Committee.

He was Member of the PartyCentral Committee of the 10th, 11th and 12th tenures; Politburo Member of the 11th and 12th tenure;Member of National Assembly of the 13th and 14th tenures.

ANNOUNCEMENT on the respect-paying,memorial and burial ceremonies for Comrade Tran Dai Quang

The funeral of Comrade Tran Dai Quang willbe organised in the national mourning etiquette.

He will be laid in state at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh TongStreet, Hanoi

The respect-paying ceremony will start at 7am on September 26 at the NationalFuneral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.

The memorial service will be held at 7:30amon September 27 at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street,Hanoi. The burial ceremony will take place from 3:30pm on the same day in the President's native land in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.

At the same time, at the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and the Hall ofthe People’s Committee of Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province, therespect-paying and memorial ceremonies for Comrade Tran Dai Quang will also beheld.

The Vietnam Television and Radio the Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live theceremonies in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.

During the two-day national mourning on September 26-27, national flags will beflown at half-mast at State offices and public places, and recreational andentertainment activities suspended.-VNA
