Havana (VNA) – Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh and a high-level delegation from the Ministry of National Defence are paying an official visit to Cuba from July 17-21.
Senior Lieutenant General Alvaro Lopez Miera, Politburo member, First Vice-Minister of the Cuba’s Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and Chief of the General Staff, hosted a ceremony on July 18 to welcome the guests.
The host described the visit, which will include a defence policy dialogue, as a vivid illustration of the sound and faithful traditional friendship between the Vietnamese and Cuban Parties, States, armies and people.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh said Vietnam attaches much importance to relations with Cuba.
Meeting the press following the welcome ceremony, Vinh said that Vietnamese people always remember the valuable assistance provided by Cuba in the nation-building cause.
At a separate meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, Politburo member, member of the State Council, and Minister of the MINFAR said he hopes the visit will be successful to help reinforce the long-standing amity between the two countries.
On July 18-19, the Vietnamese delegation visited some defence industrial facilities of MINFAR and Cuba’s military medical university to exchange cooperation and experience in dispatching army doctors to carry out international missions.-VNA
