Hanoi (VNA) – The secondnational congress of ethnic minority groups will be held in three days sometimearound the end of the first quarter or beginning of the second quarter of 2020.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucrecently signed a decision approving a plan to hold the third congresses of ethnicminority groups at district and provincial levels in 2019 and the secondnational congress in 2020.
The national-level congress willaim to recognise contributions by ethnic minority groups towards povertyreduction, new-style rural area building, infrastructure development,implementation of ethnic policies, national building and protection, andinternational integration.
It will offer a chance to honouroutstanding individuals and units in ethnic minority groups during the2009-2019 period, assess the implementation of ethnic affairs in the period,and seek ways to perfect ethnic policies for 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030.
Delegates to the event areoutstanding individuals from all walks of life, representing 53 ethnic minoritygroups of Vietnam.
Head of the Steering Committeefor the National Congress is Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, while Minister-Chairmanof the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Do Van Chien is its deputy head.
The district-level ethnicminority congresses will be held in one day, finishing before June 30, 2019,while the provincial-level ethnic minority congresses will take place over oneand a half days, finishing before November 30, 2019.
The first national ethnicminority congress was held in 2010, drawing nearly 1,700 delegates.-VNA
