The seafood market in the central province of Quang Binh has heated up again after the sea was declared to become safe following the environmental incident caused by Formosa one year ago.
Đồng Hới market is the trading hub of aquatic products in Quang Binh province, with hundreds of fresh seafood counters.
One year ago, the marine environment incident caused by Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corp, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue forced consumers to stay away from seafood products. However, recently the market has heated up again with traders being busy all day long.
Several months ago, Hoang Thi Ngoc, a trader at the market, could sell some kilos of seafood a day. Over recent days, the demand for seafood increased remarkably. Ngoc can even sell up to hundreds of kilos of seafood a day with relatively high price.
Quang Binh province is entering tourism season, with crowds of tourists during weekends, especially on holidays. Fresh and safe seafood is expected to lure more visitors to the locality. - VNA
