Hanoi (VNA) - Science-technology must become the most important driver in developing modernproduction forces and a knowledge-based economy to improve productivity, quality,efficiency, competitiveness, and economic growth in Vietnam, Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc has said.
Addressing the 8th National Congress of the Vietnam Unionof Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) in the 2020-2025 term, on December 25 in Hanoi, the PM underlinedthe crucial role played by the union in pooling the creativity of science and technologyintellectuals both in Vietnam and abroad in advancing national science-technologyand socio-economic development and maintaining national defence and security.
Agreeing with the orientations and goals adopted by VUSTA for the 2020-2025 period,the PM suggested it be more proactive in implementing Party guidelines on scienceand technology development, especially the Resolution from the 13th NationalParty Congress.
VUSTA needs to exert every effort to realise science and technology developmentgoals, improve the quality of human resources, attract talent, promote innovation,and strongly promote the application of science and technology, especially the achievementsof Industry 4.0, thus creating impetus for the country’s rapid and sustainable development,he said.
He expressed a hope that the union will be a reliable advisor of the Party and State,especially in encouraging the dedication of intellectuals.
Dr Phan Xuan Dung was elected new President of VUSTAat the gathering.
On the sidelines, PM Phuc visited booths introducing advanced technology productsand materials at a science and technology exhibition./.
