RoK President optimistic about DPRK-US summit in Hanoi

The second summit between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi will be a critical turning point for the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, according to President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in.

Hanoi (VNA) –
The second summitbetween the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US inVietnam’s capital city of Hanoi will be a critical turning point for thecomplete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, according to President ofthe Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in.

During a meeting with his senior secretaries onFebruary 11, President Moon Jae-in said the upcoming event will create anopportunity for the two Koreas to upgrade their relations.

He said the second summit will be a critical turning point that contributes topromoting principles agreed by the two sides, including the completedenuclearisation in the Korean Peninsula, new DPRK-US relations, and a peaceregime on the peninsula.

The President expressed his hope that the secondsummit will become a historical event to end the confrontation between the twosides and bring peace in the peninsula.

The future of the relations between the twoKoreas depends on peace and stability, he said.

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and US President DonaldTrump are scheduled to meet again in Hanoi on February 27-28 after their firstmeeting in Singapore on June 12 last year.

Earlier on February 6, the spokesperson of theVietnamese Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang said Vietnam stands ready toactively contribute to and cooperate with relevant sides to ensure the successfor the second US-DPRK summit.-VNA
