Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-inhas called for efforts to diversify and upgrade ties with the Associaiton of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN).

Moon made the statement during the ASEAN-RoK Summit in the Philippines’ capitalcity of Manila on November 13. He reiterated that ASEAN is a key partner in hisefforts to expand the RoK’s external relations

Moon introduced his vision of the RoK-ASEAN community, proposing to build a people-orientedcommunity of peace and prosperity community.

Earlier, at the ASEAN Investment Business Summit (ABIS) in Manila, President Moonsaid the RoK government will consider simplifying its visa issuance process forvisitors from the ASEAN countries, he said, vowing efforts to build a jointcommunity for peace.

He named the transportation, energy, water management, and informationtechnology industries as four sectors with the greatest potential forcooperation between the two sides.

To support increased cooperation with the ASEAN countries, the RoK will doubleits support fund to 14 million USD per year from now to 2019, he added.-VNA
