Quang Ninh (VNA) – The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh isfleshing out measures to reorganise travel business in the locality in order to protect visitors’interests and improve the image of local tourism, head of the provincial Party Committee’sCommunication and Education Commission Cao Tuong Huy told the press on April 4.
Three travel agents were given administrative penalties and deprived of theirinternational travel business licences, Huy said, adding that authoritiesimposed total fines of 386 million VND (17,000 USD) on 58 tour guides, haltedthe operation of 16 shops selling goods to Chinese tourists and punished four othersfor trade violations.
He said that travel companies are rushing to sell their tour packages,especially to Chinese holiday-makers. To make up input costs of accommodation, restaurantsand transport, their budget tours include visits to shopping destinations thattend to disappoint travellers.
According to Le Minh Tan, Vice Director of the provincial Tourism Department,state management agencies and the travel business community have fixed thefloor price of each four-day three-night tour at 1.7-2 million VND (74.8-88 USD).
The move will ensure tourism quality while protecting travellers’ interests,Tan said.
He said that further inspections will be carried out based on tour contracts toensure sound management of international tours.
The People’s Committee of Mong Cai city (Quang Ninh province) recently withdrewbusiness licences from eight shopping malls for tourists as part of the effortsto clean the tourism business environment.
Those include Gia Loi, Kim NguyenPlaza, Tinh hoa Viet, Thuong truong Phuong Dong, Mong Cai Plaza, Vinh Phatcentre, Kim Dao Hue Nguyen and Duong Vu Centre which specialises indistributing Vietnamese specialties.-VNA
