Quang Binh provides effective support for Laos’ Khammouane province in COVID-19 fight

An 11-member working team from the central province of Quang Binh to Laos’ Khammouane province to help the bordering country fight COVID-19 returned home on October 25 after successfully completing their missions in two weeks.

Quang Binh (VNA) – An 11-member working team from the central province of Quang Binh to Laos’ Khammouane province to helpthe bordering country fight COVID-19 returned home on October 25 after successfullycompleting their missions in two weeks.

The team took with them two RT-PCR testing machines andbioproducts that are enough for testing 15,000 group samples, along with 1,000 quicktest kits and other medical equipment to support the Lao locality inCOVID-19 prevention and control activities.

Besides, Quang Binh presented a level-2 biological safetycabinet to Khammouane.

Nguyen Thanh Xuan, Vice Director of the Quang Binh Departmentfor External Affairs, said that on October 19, Quang Binh provided Khammouanewith additional bioproducts worth about 500 million VND to serve testingactivities amid the rising number of infections in the province, raising the province's total assistance to Khammouane this time to about 2.7 billion VND(118,444 USD).

Xuan said that with coordination from Khammouane, fromOctober 11-25, the Quang Binh team conducted testing on 6,700 samples, discovering738 cases positive to SARS-CoV-2.

Before leaving Laos, the team also shared experience withtheir Lao peers on COVID-19 prevention and control.

In recognition of the team’s efforts and contributions to COVID-19 prevention and control of Khammouane, Bunmi Phimasone, Deputy Secretary of theprovincial Party Committee and Chairman of the province’s People’s Councilpresented Khammouane Governor’s Certificates of Merit to members of the team.

He thanked the government and people of Quang Binh forsupporting Khammouane in the difficult time since COVID-19 broke out in Laos,describing the assistance as an evidence for the close ties between people ofVietnam and Laos as well as Quang Binh and Khammouane in particular./.
