Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam and Sudan hold a lot of potential for strongercooperation, particularly in trade, investment, agriculture, fishery, oil andgas, and telecommunications, said President Tran Dai Quang.

Ata reception in Hanoi on May 25 for outgoing Sudanese Ambassador Sayed AltayedAhmed, President Quang spoke highly of the ambassador’s contributions toenhancing the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

Havingapplauded the outcomes of the second meeting of the Vietnam-Sudan JointCommittee in Hanoi in October 2016, the State leader suggested Sudan coordinatewith the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to acceleratethe implementation of agreements reached at the meeting.

RelevantVietnamese ministries and agencies will create optimal conditions for Sudanesetrade offices in Vietnam to operate, thus elevating the bilateral friendshipand cooperation to a new height, he said.

PresidentQuang asked the ambassador to continue introducing Vietnam’s investment andbusiness opportunities to Sudanese firms, stressing that Vietnam wants towelcome more Sudanese enterprises in the time ahead.

ThePresident took this occasion to thank Sudan for its support for Vietnam’smembership at the UN Human Rights Council (2014-2016 term) and the UN Economicand Social Council (2016-2018 term). He called on Sudan to continue backingVietnam’s bid to run for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council(2020-2021 tenure)  as well as itscandidate for the post of the UNESCO Director General (2017-2021 tenure).

Forhis part, Sayed Altayed Ahmed said Vietnam and Sudan should fully tap theirpotential and advantages to foster bilateral cooperation in economy, trade andinvestment in order to make it on par with their fine political ties, hence benefitingthe people of both countries.

Thediplomat said Sudan has seven trade offices in Ho Chi Minh City to supportoperations of Sudanese enterprises in Vietnam and connect the two countries’businesses.  

Sudanhopes to welcome more Vietnamese investors to the country, he said, adding thatSudan is willing to act as a gateway for Vietnamese goods to penetrate theAfrican market.-VNA
