Vietnam, Sudan legislatures reinforce ties

Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung welcomed theSpeaker to Vietnam to attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary UnionAssembly (IPU-132) – taking place as the implementation of the UNMillennium Development Goals (MDGs) concludes and in the midst ofpreparations for a post-2015 development agenda.

Amid this formative era, the final document of the IPU-132 in Hanoicarries a significant meaning, Hung noted, calling on Sudanlawmakers to back the issuance of the IPU-132 statement.

He added that Vietnam and Sudan share a number of historicalsimilarities. Since the two countries established their diplomatic tiesin 1969, the bilateral friendship has been nurtured by generations ofleaders, laying a strong foundation for expanded cooperation in thefuture.

He recommended the two sides enhancecoordination in trade, agriculture, seafood, oil and gas,telecommunication and investment on a par with their respectivepotential.

The top legislator also urged the twocountries’ parliaments to intensify supervision of the implementation ofagreements signed between the two governments, ministries and sectors.

For his part, the Sudan Speaker lauded Vietnam ’scareful preparations for the IPU-132 Assembly, which, he said,demonstrates the capacity and potential of the host and the good will ofVietnamese people.

He thanked Vietnam forsupporting his country in its national liberation. He agreed withChairman Hung on promoting the comprehensive cooperation between the twocountries, especially in agriculture and oil and gas.

He also expressed his hope that the two countries’ parliaments willmove towards the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement in sharingexperience in law-making and raising understanding amongparliamentarians.

After the reception, the two toplegislators witnessed the signing of a visa waiver agreement for holdersof diplomatic/service and special passports.-VNA
