President requests serious handling of economic, corruption cases

President Tran Dai Quang has asked the Supreme People’s Court to seriously deal with major criminal cases, especially those regarding economic activities and corruption.

Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang asked theSupreme People’s Court to seriously deal with major criminal cases, especiallythose regarding economic activities and corruption, during a teleconferenceheld in Hanoi on January 9.

In his speech, he requested the sector improve quality andspeed up the settlement of cases, avoid unjust judgments and miss outcriminals.

The President suggested that the Supreme People’s Courtshould build its image of being friendly, close and helpful to the people;protecting justice, human and citizen rights, socialism, State interests, and legitimaterights and interests of individuals and organisations.

On the occasion, the State leader praised the court sectorfor working closely with agencies concerned to thoroughly and cautiouslyconsider cases that went on trial years ago and claimed innocence, some of themhave been justified, thus ensuring legitimate rights and interests of citizens.

The court reported that a number of cases were prosecuted promptlyand strictly last year.  

From October 1, 2016 – September 30, 2017, courts nationwidedealt with 438,625 cases, equivalent to 89.3 percent of the total. The numberof cases being handled and already handled rose by 8.3 percent and 6.1 percent,respectively. The number of cancelled and revised verdicts accounted for 1.3percent, meeting the National Assembly’s requirement.

Progress was also seen in the settlement of civil andadministrative cases. Up to 53.3 percent of civil cases were mediatedsuccessfully.-VNA
