Nghe An(VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on September 16 inspected recoveryefforts in Nghe An province’s Cua Lo town after Typhoon Doksuri swept throughthe central locality one day earlier.
PM Phuc visited NghiHai primary school in Nghi Hai ward of Cua Lo, where the roof of manyclassrooms were blown away, with total losses of about 1 billion VND. Heencouraged teachers to focus on overcoming the disaster, and ask necessary assistancefrom the province.
He urged Nghe An tocontinue mobilising forces to clean the environment and support locals inrepairing houses and schools, making sure that on September 19, all studentscan return to schools and all locals can access to fresh water and power.
He also asked theprovince to help locals resume productionby September 17.
He agreed on proposalsof Secretary of the Nghe An Party Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh on the setting upof flood warning systems in Ky Son district and Hieu River, and the upgrade ofsea dyke of the province to enhance its resilience.
Earlier, the PM alsoinspected the overcoming of Typhoon Doksuri’s consequences in Quang Binh and HaTinh provinces.
Typhoon Doksuri, the 10th of its kind arising in the East Sea and the strongestone hitting Vietnam in many years, left five deaths and dozens of injuries in sixhours in Vietnam on September 15.
The typhoon caused winds of up to 135kmph, cutting power to many localities andaffecting 1.3 million people. Thousands of houses were destroyed and power andtelecommunications networks were damaged.-VNA
