Budapest (VNA) – Party General Secretary NguyenPhu Trong met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives ofVietnamese expatriates in Hungary on September 9, part of his official visit tothe European nation.

Ambassador Nguyen Tien Thuc informed the leaderof the Communist Party of Vietnam about the embassy’s performance, activitiesof the Vietnamese People Association, and the situation of the Vietnamesecommunity in Hungary.

The over 5,000 Vietnamese here have always beenunited and supported each other. They are an important bridge in the twocountries’ relations, he said.

At the meeting, many expatriates showed theirattention to Vietnam’s situation and submitted proposals. They said developmentguidelines and policies should be built basing on the interests of the countryand people so as to enhance people’s trust. They also called on the Party andState to pay more attention to developing agriculture, building new-style ruralareas, improving farmers’ living standards and protecting the environment.

They promised to remain united and contribute tothe development of Hungary and Vietnam.

General Secretary Trong appreciated theexpatriates’ opinions and briefed them about Vietnam’s situation.

He said his visit to Hungary aims to elevatebilateral relations, adding that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnamand Hungary have grown during the past seven decades. The Hungarian people providedthe Vietnamese with precious assistance for nation-building and protection inthe past. Nowadays, the two sides continue promoting friendship and cooperationin a pragmatic and effective manner for the sake of the two peoples and for thedevelopment of each country.

He applauded the embassy’s efforts to fulfilltheir duties and activities of the Vietnamese People Association and memberorganisations in Hungary to support the expatriates.

The leader emphasised that the Party and Statealways consider overseas Vietnamese as an integral part of Vietnam. He askedthe expatriates to always remember their origin, assist each other, upholdnational cultural identities and contribute to the two countries’ connections.

“Each person is a nucleus, a seed and a bridgein the friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” he noted.

He also asked the embassy to work harder to helpreinforce the traditional bilateral ties and support the Vietnamese communityin Hungary.–VNA
