Budapest (VNA) –General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee NguyenPhu Trong and his entourage arrived at Ferenc Liszt International Airport inBudapest in the afternoon of September 8, starting his official visit toHungary at the invitation of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
An official welcome ceremonyfor him and the delegation was held at the airport.
Vietnam and Hungaryestablished diplomatic relations on February 3, 1950. Hungary provided Vietnamwith valuable support and assistance during the latter’s national defence andconstruction. Over the past years, bilateral relations have seen very positivedevelopments, with the exchange of delegations, especially at the high level,taking place regularly through the channels of parties, administrations,national assemblies, and localities. The two sides also have had effectivecooperation at multilateral forums, particularly at the United Nations andwithin the framework of the Asia – Europe Economic Forum.

Hungary takes Vietnam as itsmost important partner in Southeast Asia. The Hungary visit by the Party leaderaffirms Vietnam’s advocate of taking Hungary as a traditional partner of thetop importance in Middle-eastern Europe, strengthens the mutual understandingand trust between the two countries’ leaders and peoples, creates a newlandmark and motive, and brings the Vietnam – Hungary relations to a newheight.
Under his schedule, duringhis stay in Hungary from September 8-11, Party leader Trong will hold talks andhave meetings with leaders of the host country, witness the signing of manycooperation documents between the two countries, meet representatives of theHungary – Vietnam Friendship Association, tour Szentendre city, deliver aspeech at the second Vietnam – Hungary conference of rectors of universities,visit the Vietnamese embassy and talk with representatives of the Vietnamesecommunity in the country.-VNA
