Over 82.6 million USD to support COVID-19 fight

Organisations and individuals at home and abroad have donated and registered to donate more than 1.9 trillion VND (82.6 million USD) since the campaign “All people join hands to fight COVID-19” was launched by the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee more than 40 days ago.

Hanoi (VNA) – Organisations and individuals at home and abroad have donated and registered todonate more than 1.9 trillion VND (82.6 million USD) since the campaign “Allpeople join hands to fight COVID-19” was launched by the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee more than 40 days ago.

The committee on April 28 received 5 billion VND as donation from Hong Kong’s Sunwah Group to help the Vietnamese Government with thefight against the raging pandemic.

Followingthe hand-over ceremony, President of the organisation Tran Thanh Manhosted a reception for Director of Sunwah Vietnam Jesse Choi.

Man thankedand hailed Sunwah for its effective contributions to Vietnam’s economicdevelopment over the past time, as well as its social activities in the country.

He said that with 50 years of operation in Vietnam, Sunwah should continue activelyconducting projects in the country, thus further contributing tomutually-beneficial ties between Vietnam and Hong Kong in particular, as wellas comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China in general.

Choi, forhis part, expressed his belief that with the support of internationalcommunity, Vietnam will soon win the fight, contributing to protecting public health.  

Followingthe reception, Choi paid a courtesy call to Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairmanof thevState Committee on Overseas VietnameseAffairs Dang Minh Khoi.

Last month, Sunwah Foundationpresented 15,000 medical masks to the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry andrepresentative agencies abroad.

The sameday, Man also received 1.7 billion VND in cash and kind from the Thai Embassy inVietnam, which was raised by Thailand mission to Vietnam, ThailandEntrepreneurs’ Club (Northern region), and Thai businesses and community inVietnam.

He said thesum will be directly distributed to the ministries of health, national defenceand public security.

ThaiAmbassador to Vietnam Tanee Sangrat hoped that both countries will soonovercome the epidemic.

Also on April 28, Vice Chairman of the VFF CentralCommittee Nguyen Huu Dung received 1 billion VND from SCG company and 100million VND from war veterans./.
