Hanoi (VNA) – High-ranking officials of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and central Da Nang city extended their seasonal greetings to local Catholics on December 23 on the occasion of Christmas.
Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi visited Archbishop Peter Nguyen Van Nhon and other dignitaries at the Hanoi Archbishop Office to wish them a merry and happy Christmas.
He asked the dignitaries to encourage Catholics to promote solidarity and enhance connections with local authorities, ultimately contributing to the capital city’s development.
Archbishop Peter Nguyen Van Nhon voiced his joy at the Hanoi authorities’ care for Catholics in the Christmas season, pledging continued efforts by the Hanoi Archdiocese and its followers to contribute to the city’s prosperity.
Hanoi officials also visited and presented Christmas gifts to Catholics in the city’s parishes.
In HCM City, a delegation of the municipal administration visited the municipal Committee for Solidary of Vietnamese Catholics, the Archbishop Office of HCM City, and the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (South).
Vo Van Thuong, Party Central Committee member and Vice Standing Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, wished Archbishop Bui Van Doc and other dignitaries good health and asked him to convey his greetings to local followers.
He called for more contributions by Catholics to the city’s growth and hoped that the Archbishop and priests will further encourage the followers to participate in patriotic emulation movements and socio-economic development.
Meeting with representatives of the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (South), Thuong voiced the belief that the Church and its priest and followers will actively join in efforts to develop the city while leading a good secular and religious life.
Officials in Da Nang city and the northern province of Vinh Phuc also made well-wishing visits to local churches on the occasion.-VNA
