Hanoi (VNA) – Christmas greetings have been extended to Catholic and Protestant dignitaries and followers across Vietnam as the season is coming very near.
Deputy Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Tran Tan Hung sent his best wishes to Catholic compatriots while visiting Vinh Long Diocese in the southern province of Vinh Long on December 22.
Senior officials from the provincial People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee also congratulated local Catholics on the occasion.
The same day, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang led a delegation to present gifts to dignitaries and followers at the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North).
Pastor Nguyen Huu Mac pledged to do more to encourage Protestants to play a greater role in the capital city’s growth.
Amid the X-mas atmosphere, authorities from the northern province of Ha Nam wished local Catholic and Protestant followers a warm and blissful season.
Meanwhile, the People’s Committee and the VFF Central Committee in the central coastal province of Phu Yen , set up many delegations to visit and present gift packages to Catholic and Protestant dignitaries from December 20-22.
On December 22, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong Cao Huy , headed a delegation to extend merry Christmas to local Catholic and Protestant communities.
Authorities of the localities all recognised the significant contributions of the Catholics and Protestants to the local socio-economic development.
Catholic and Protestant followers are committed to strictly following the Party and State’s policy to strengthen the great national unity.
Catholicism and Protestantism are two major religions in Vietnam , with nearly 7 million and over 1 million followers, respectively.-VNA
