A national seminar was held in Hanoi on August 24 to give more insight into the role of the August Revolution and National Day seven decades ago in the cause of doi moi (reform), integration and development of Vietnam.

The function was attended by 300 delegates, including former Party and State leaders, representatives of ministries, sectors, universities, and scientists nationwide.

Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member and Director of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, affirmed that all achievements attained during the past 70 years, especially in almost 30 years of doi moi, were based on the great victory of the August Revolution and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, which is now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The biggest and most profound lesson of the August Revolution which is still relevant today is the strong and creative leadership of the Party, which optimised patriotism and the strength of the national great solidarity, combined the national strength with the strength of the era, and timely grasped opportunities when the time was ripe, he said.

The Party official noted the substantial and unpredictable changes in the current global situation that pose an array of opportunities as well as challenges to Vietnam. The situation requires the entire Party, people and army to fully bring into play their patriotism, the strength of the national great solidarity along with the historical values and unyielding spirit of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) so as to surmount all difficulties to develop the country rapidly and sustainably.

The official asked the scientists to further clarify the historical values of the August Revolution in Vietnam’s history, the event’s notable impacts on the national liberation movements in Asia, Africa and the world at large.

The participants should also shed light on the role of the Revolution in the cause of national development and defence over the past 70 years, particularly in the doi moi, industrialisation and modernisation, Huynh added.

President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences Nguyen Xuan Thang said what made the conference different from previous similar events was the reports’ attention on how to bring into play the spirit of the August Revolution and the National Day in the national development and defence cause in all fields, from politics, economics, culture, society, diplomacy, to security-defence and sovereignty protection.-VNA
