Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th National Assembly’s second session wrapped up in Hanoi on November 23 after 26 days of sitting, leaving impression on lawmaking reform, supreme supervision and decisions made on key country issues.

From the beginning of the 14th NA, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan pledged her strong determination to improve the legislature’s operation quality in her inaugural speech to the NA, constituents and people nationwide, which was proved at the second session.

Deputies spent 60 percent of time considering and adopting the Law on Belief and Religion, the Law on Property Auction and the Law on amendments and supplements to Article 6 and Appendix 4 of the Investment Law’s list of conditional business lines and 11 resolutions.

At the session, two bills failed to be passed, including the draft Law on Associations and the draft Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Penal Code No.100/2015/QH13.

The NA Standing Committee was asked to work closely with concerned agencies to fine-tune the draft law to submit to the NA for adoption at the third session in May 2017.

Deputy Luu Binh Nhuong from the southern province of Ben Tre hailed the delay of the adoption as a responsible and cautious decision by the NA on major social issues.

While discussing the government’s report on the implementation of socio-economic tasks, State budget as well as orientations to national development for coming years, lawmakers proposed constructive ideas and measures to speed up economic growth later this year and 2017, as well as fulfill goals set by the NA.

The NA listened to presentations and responses by the ministers of Industry and Trade, Environment and Natural Resources, Education and Training, Home Affairs, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

More than 200 lawmakers raised questions over two days of question-and-answer (Q&A) sessions, 35 of them debated directly with the ministers during their presentations.

Speaking highly of the quality of Q&A sessions, deputy Nguyen Anh Tri from Hanoi said he is satisfied with the flexible direction of the Presidium and direct discussions with ministers, so that concern over burning issues were not skipped or covered up by others.

The second session has marked a spirit of innovation, solidarity, creativity and action for the interest of the people and the country, laying momentum for next activities of the highest organ of the people.-VNA
