The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee officially announced a resolution on the establishment of the 14th NA’s Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Organisation on November 22.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee officially announced a resolution on the establishment of the 14th NA’s Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Organisation on November 22.

The organisation consists of 57 parliamentary friendship groups with the parliaments of countries that Vietnam has diplomatic relations with.

Addressing Vietnamese officials and foreign diplomats at the announcement, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said over 30 years of doi moi (reforms), Vietnam has obtained significant achievements in all socio-economic aspects. Its diplomatic activities have also gained enormous attainments in ensuring a peaceful and stable environment for the national development

Those accomplishments, greatly contributed by external activities of the NA and the Parliamentary Friendship Organisation in the previous tenures, have enhanced international friends’ understanding of Vietnam, promoted the NA’s cooperation with global parliaments, and raised the NA’s stature in the parliamentary diplomacy around the world.

In the previous NA terms, parliamentary friendship groups have become an important channel in parliamentary diplomacy, helping to solidify the amity and cooperation between the Vietnamese NA and people with their counterparts in other countries, she noted.

She expressed her belief that the 14th NA’s Parliamentary Friendship Organisation will continue to bring into play its role in fostering Vietnam’s parliamentary diplomacy.

NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, who also chairs the organisation, pledged that the organisation will exert all efforts to fulfill the assigned tasks. She also hoped for stronger cooperation from foreign ambassadors and diplomats to Vietnam to help bolster the Vietnamese NA’s ties with global parliaments.-VNA
