NA Standing Committee’s 27th meeting concludes

Hanoi (VNA) – The 27th meeting of the National Assembly StandingCommittee concluded on September 20 after nine working days to prepareimportant contents for the NA’s sixth session slated for October.

Closing the meeting, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that duringthe meeting, the NA Standing Committee gave ideas on nine bills and approved anumber of resolutions on various issues.

She asked the Government and NA committees, as well as the NA GeneralSecretary and other agencies to absorb opinions given at the meeting in orderto complete reports and bills for debate at the NA.

Ngan said that in the next meeting of the NA Standing Committee,scheduled for October 15-17, relevant agencies should send documents to the committeeon time to ensure the quality and progress of discussion at the meeting.

Earlier, the NA Standing Committee approved a resolution on anenvironmental tax list, which aims to raise public awareness of theresponsibilities in environmental protection, while encouraging organisationsand individuals to use environmentally-friendly products.

The committee agreed with the Government’s proposal on adjusting theenvironmental tax rate on some products, including fuel. Specifically, the ratefor petrol was suggested to increase from 3,000 VND per litre to the ceilinglevel of 4,000 VND per litre, while that of diesel oil to be raised from 1,500VND per litre to 2,000 VND per litre, and fuel oil from 900 VND per litre to theceiling rate of 2,000 VND per litre. The tax rate on kerosene was proposed to bepushed up from 300 VND per litre to 1,000 VND per litre.

The resolution also adjusts the tax rate for products that take a morelasting toll on the environment, such as fossil coal, herbicides, anti-termitechemicals, plastic bags, and restricted antiseptics.

The same day, members of the committee also debated the revised Law onTax Management.–VNA
