Hanoi (VNA) - The second meeting ofMyanmar’s Peace Conference will run until May 29, extending for one more daycompared to previous schedule.
Facts discussed by representatives duringthe conference will be submitted to the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee(UPDJC) for consideration and then the agreed points will be included in aunion agreement.
Meanwhile, seven Northern Alliancenon-ceasefire signatory armed groups left the conference on May 27 withoutreaching agreements but all accepted the idea of going through furtherdialogue.
With the aim of uniting all ethnic groupsin Myanmar and building a democratic union through dialogues, the PeaceConference of Myanmar, also known as the 21st century Panglong Peace Conference,plans to reach 21 deals through political negotiations between the governmentand ethnic armed groups.
The Nationwide Cease fire Accord (NCA) isscheduled to be signed during the event, which is participated by State CounsellorSan Suu Kyi, Deputy Commander in chief of Myanmar Armed Forces Soe Win and 15armed groups, including eight signatories to the NCA and seven non-signatories.
The first conference, held in late August2016, drew the participation of 1,800 delegates who discussed a nationalpolitical dialogue framework aimed at ending conflicts between the government’smilitary and ethnic armed groups in the past seven decades.-VNA
