Hanoi (VNA) – The Myanmar’s Union Parliament on March 1 set March 10 for presidential run, one week earlier as the previous schedule.
Accordingly, three nominees from the House of Representatives (Lower House), the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and the military will be announced.
The person who wins the most votes will become president, while the two others will be vice presidents.
The nomination list will be forwarded to the speaker of the union parliament.
The new government will be formed following the election. The power transfer to new head of state will be on March 31 when the current government term expires
On February 8, the newly-elected Union Parliament held its first meeting in Nay Pyi Taw after the term of the previous parliament expired.
Myanmar held a general election to elect parliament representatives in November 2015, in which the National League for Democracy (NLD) won the absolute majority of seats in the two houses .
Currently, the army holds 25 percent of the parliament's seats.-VNA
